Cannabidiol (CBD) has become one of the most popular supplements on the market. CBD is one of the various cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and is much different from the more famous cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis that causes the “high” feeling. However, CBD shares many of the other properties of THC without the mind-altering effects.
Thanks to these potentially beneficial properties of CBD, a vast market has opened for CBD products. There are numerous types of CBD products featuring varying effects and potency. In this article, we’ll explore the kinds of CBD and CBD products available today so you can discover what products are suitable for your needs.
Keep in mind that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved any CBD products to treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.
The Types of CBD
The various companies that manufacture CBD products use several methods to extract CBD from cannabis. As a result, there are three different types of CBD. The first is full-spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum CBD has all parts of the cannabis plant, including THC. However, full-spectrum CBD only contains less than 0.3 percent THC. Broad-spectrum CBD is the next type and includes every part of the cannabis plant except THC. Finally, CBD isolates only contain CBD with zero other cannabinoids or THC. As a result, most consumers report that CBD isolates may not have any notable effects.
CBD Capsules
CBD capsules are small tablets with a specific dose of CBD. Many people use CBD capsules as a daily supplement to help with occasional discomfort, sleeplessness, or anxiousness. Typically, consumers will opt for the capsule form if they don’t prefer the taste of oils or edibles and don’t want to vape. The best CBD capsules release quickly to begin absorption as soon as possible. However, CBD capsules are the slowest delivery method for CBD.
Other than a daily supplement, one CBD capsule product, Epidiolex, was approved by the FDA to treat two rare forms of epilepsy. Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome are rare forms of epilepsy with limited treatment options. In addition, Dravet syndrome has no effective treatment option except for Epidiolex.
CBD Oil
CBD oil is a liquid that’s ingested to receive the effects of CBD. Typically, these oils are placed under the tongue using a dropper. The CBD compounds begin to absorb through the capillaries underneath the tongue before being swallowed and digested to absorb the remaining cannabinoids. Aside from placing CBD oil under the tongue, users can add it to drinks or even use it in cooking. However, it’s essential to note that you cannot vape CBD oil.
CBD Topicals
CBD also comes in the form of topicals that you apply directly to your skin. Most people use CBD topicals, such as lotion, balm, or cream, by applying them to an area of concern. For example, if someone is feeling some discomfort in their elbow, they may apply a CBD topical to ease the discomfort. Many of these products come in varying scents and potencies.
CBD Edibles
CBD edibles are simply food infused with CBD. CBD gummies are the most popular CBD edible, but there are many more, including baked goods, hard candies, and chocolates. Like capsules, this product must be digested to receive the effects. However, many people choose this product to take the guesswork out of dosage.
CBD Vape Juice
CBD vape juice is the fastest delivery method for CBD. This CBD product involves inhaling vaporized CBD vape juice to absorb the cannabinoids directly from the lungs into the bloodstream. These vape juices come in a myriad of flavors and potencies.
The Best CBD Products
It can be challenging to decide which CBD product is best for your needs with all the choices out there. Consider the delivery methods and variety in these products and find what works for you. However, you should always consult your doctor before beginning any new supplement.
